I Have a Dream

The sound of a slight breeze rustling the leaves overhead is only interrupted by the sound of the laughter of children in this beautiful center park in the Broadway East Development. This complex that backs up right to the North Boulder Recreational Center was finished only two short years ago but was an important addition to the Boulder community. Boulder Housing Partners in conjunction with the “I Have a Dream” Foundation created a community center for the residents of Broadway East and other Boulder communities. The playground represents the purpose of both organizations by providing a place to play for these children that otherwise would not have the opportunity. The “I Have a Dream” Foundation has set up after school programs at their community centers like this one and buses children there from around the city. It provides a safe place for children and parents alike to congregate and become part of the identity of Boulder.

This particular development’s units are part of the Section 8 Project Based Program. Each apartment has a Section 8 Project Based Voucher that remains with the apartment unit.  Qualified applicants pay approximately 30% of their income for rent.  This program is income qualified. Maximum income is based on number in the household. There is no income minimum. The wait list can be from 6 months to 2 years depending on how quickly people move from the program.

It is through the continued support of the Boulder community that Boulder Housing Partners is able to create neighborhoods like this one. The nonprofit organizations of Boulder will continue to work together to ensure that all those that are in need will receive the assistance that they require.
